Kindles on Fire, Amazing Feats of Water Cooling, and Making People Tell the Truth

Amazon Releases So Many Kindles!
Amazon was busy today, releasing all sorts of Kindles. The Kindle Fire is now $40 less while gaining a faster processor, double the RAM, and better battery life. The Kindle Fire now has an 8.9" HD version for $299 (Wi-Fi) and $499 (4G LTE). Plenty of software updates to the Kindle-ized version of Android, such as multiple users, make this update pretty compelling. If you want to know more, listen to the podcast or check out Gizmodo's complete coverage.

11 Million Apple UDIDs Leaked
This week 11 million UDIDs were leaked by Anonymous. If you're unfamiliar, a UDID is the unique identification number on iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches. Anonymous claims they received the leak from an FBI agent's laptop, but Apple and the FBI have denied this claim. The story is still developing, but you shouldn't worry too much about your security in regards to the leak. There's little that malicious people can do with a UDID.

A Beginner's Guide to Water Cooling Your Computer
Last week Whitson installed a water cooling setup in his computer so he could overclock it even more, and this week he posted about the process. It comes with a really great video that shows the entire installation process, so be sure to check it out.

Getting the Honest Truth Out of People
We want to tell the truth, but sometimes we need a nudge. We came across a few studies that demonstrated how people are more likely to be truthful if you remind them that it's important, or even put ideas of morality in their head.

Questions and Answers

Kindles on Fire, Amazing Feats of Water Cooling, and Making People Tell the TruthEach week we answer five questions from readers and listeners. Here's what we tackled this week.

Is it better to shut down my computer regularly or leave it on all the time?
We answered this question as an Ask Lifehacker post but it initially came into the show, so we discussed it on the podcast as well.

How can I remap Apple keyboard function keys to work on a Windows PC?
With AutoHotkey! Whitson wrote a post explaining how to remap function keys with the software, and Pash wrote a guide on turning any action into a keyboard shortcut. Both can help you add custom actions to your function keys.

What the deal with lumosity.com? Is there scientific evidence to backup their claims?
For those of you who aren't familiar, Lumosity is a site that offers brain training games to supposedly make you smarter, more creative, etc. We've seen one large study that found brain games don't work. While we can't say that means Lumosity, specifically, is ineffective, it does suggest that your time is better spent elsewhere.

How Do I Submit a Question?

Kindles on Fire, Amazing Feats of Water Cooling, and Making People Tell the TruthThere are three ways to send in your question:

Please keep your questions as brief as possible. This means about 3-5 sentences for emails and 30-60 seconds for calls and videos. Your questions can be specific, but broader questions are generally better because they'll apply to more people. For example, "how can I breathe new life into my old PDA?" is much better than "what can I do with an old HP iPAQ 210?" Either way, we look forward to hearing from you!
