Esko, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Esko baseball players, coaches and community volunteers spent the day repairing the baseball field after June's flood destroyed most of the field grounds.

Flood waters rose more than eight feet in some areas of the park.

Volunteers were focused on restoring the baseball field turf and fence on Saturday.

Community members donated skid loaders, a compressor with a jackhammer and a post pounder.

Esko baseball players say they are doing everything they can to guarantee they will be able to play baseball in the spring.

"We lost a lot of dirt in the infield got ruined-it caved in, and then our dugouts also shifted," seniors, Tyler Miller and Nathan Linder said. "So we're just working to get the field looking brand new for the regular season to start."

To help with the costs of repairs, the Esko baseball team has applied for a matching grant through the Twins Foundation.

Esko voters are being asked to approve a $2.7 million referendum to upgrade the aging sports facilities.

That amount is about $4 million less than a previous referendum, which voters rejected in 2009.

As far as the upcoming game season, Linder says the team is strong he believes the team has a good chance at making it to state in 2013.
